Bear is a 2-3 year old shepherd mix who had been at SCRAPS in Spokane since August 2018 when we pulled him at the end of May. Bear had a history of some resource guarding issues and also nipped an adopter who grabbed his collar. But he's otherwise a sweet and goofy boy, and the shelter wanted to make sure he went to a rescue that could screen potential adopters to find him the perfect home.
We've been working with Bear on his resource guarding issues, which center around toys. He's doing great, but he'll still need an adopter who is familiar with resource guarding and experienced with the breed as it will be an ongoing training process in the home. Because of the resource guarding, no children under 12 years old.
Bear does great with other dogs, walks well on leash, and is a very quick learner! He hasn't been protective of his toys with other dogs, but a doggie friend that doesn't care that much about toys would be best for him. He does great out on the town meeting new people and dogs and will be a very fun dog for the right home. If you're interested in adopting Bear, please fill out an application below.
We are going to have to put Bear in boarding during our move, so he could really use a foster in either North Idaho or the Boise area. We have a 8'X4' kennel we could put in a garage or shop. Please let us know if you could help!
